Mark Morris is a Traditional Owner of Pukatja. He holds the dreaming stories for this part of the APY Lands and he says he is “looking after this place”. His grandfather is Pitjatjatjara and his Grandmother is Yankuntjatara. Mark is the oldest of four siblings. Mark had a very special relationship with his grandfather before he passed away. His “tjamu” (grandfather) used to take him out camping for two or three nights to teach him old ways of hunting and also how to make traditional Anangu weapons. Mark said that his grandfather used to tell him he was “getting tired” from making weapons and pass them onto Mark to finish so he would learn. Now, Mark is an excellent weapon maker, keeping this tradition alive with his highly skilled hands.
