Ngayuku Walka means ‘My design’. Artists title their work in this way when the piece’s decoration is a pattern rather than a description or a story. The patterns the Ernabella artists use come from many sources: body art from ceremony; the landscape; flowers and plants; bush foods; animal tracks; traditional artefacts such as carrying dishes and their history in the 60 year old Ernabella craft room, where patterns were used on floor rugs and gouche works.
