Charmaine was born in 1997 in Alice Springs and grew up in Pukatja and Amata communities. Her grandparents, Billy and Lulu Cooley are talented punu (wood) sculpture artists, now living and working in Mutitjulu with Maruku Arts. Her mother, Joanne Cooley is also an accomplished artist, painting the Tali (sand dune) story that Charmaine is painting. Charmaine paints her great grandmother’s country near Amata, a place called Angatja.
